Protected political speech is under attack in the most red of red states – Oklahoma.  You heard me right – Oklahoma, because the Democrat Attorney general didn’t like someone picking on his friend. A good friend, and his homosexual friend: local Democrat County Commissioner, Jim Roth.

Earlier this year, former State Representative Tim Pope, President of the Oklahoma Republican Assembly, decided to spread the word about an event in Oklahoma City that was being sponsored by GayOKC.com.  The event was titled, “It’s 2006 – do you know where your gay rights are?”.  Pope’s intention was to get as many people there as possible to expose the real agenda behind the “gay agenda”.  Among other things being presented at this meting was the S&M guy who said that, “Some people think that the S&M’s only dress in leather and break arms but we will only break you arm if you want us to”.  This was followed by about 20 different “free sex” people preaching their sickness including the Pan-sexuals who practice sex with animals – enough of that stuff.

Pope paid for around 10,000 - 30 second recorded messages to be delivered into Oklahoma County around January 29th, 2006.   The text of the message is as follows:

Stand by for an important message.

Hear County Commissioner Jim Roth speak of his success in advancing the homosexual agenda in Oklahoma County; including homosexual language into the county personnel handbook and fighting to keep homosexual books in the children’s section of the library.

Commissioner Jim Roth will discuss his role in advancing the homosexual political agenda on Monday, January 30th at 6:30 at Epworth United Methodist Church.

Stand by for a 1 question survey.

If you think that Commissioner Roth should continue using his position to advance the homosexual agenda - press one - - if you do not press 2.

Thank You.

This call was not a partisan political call because it did not advocate for or against any candidate for political office – it simply made people aware that a meeting was taking place that God fearing people ought to be aware of.

Anyway – a few of Roth’s “friends” got their feelings hurt and filed a complaint with the Attorney General, Drew Edmondson’s, office.  You might remember Edmondson’s name – it has only been a few years ago that he put Oklahoma into the fight about homosexual scout leaders by filing a friend of the court brief to try to force the Boy Scouts to allow homosexual leaders - - - in New Jersey!

Edmondson acted, virtually, instantaneously, by requesting records from the company who delivered the calls within about 2 days from the time the calls were made.  The company provided the records and inquiries were made only to see the thing drop off the radar scope last March.  On the 3rd of this month Edmondson filed a civil lawsuit against Pope for violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act because he did not include both a name and a phone number in his message and asked for $10 million in fines!

This whole thing stinks on a variety of levels but not the least of them is that “robocalls” have been used in this, and most other, states for years and I cannot remember a single one that included a name and phone number of the person responsible for initiating the call.  This is nothing more than an over active AG trying to stomp out the freedom of speech of someone he disagrees with.  How can these people who stand on the rooftop demanding tolerance of all people be so intolerant – it is simply another tactic of the hypocritical left.

It should be noted that President Clinton and (very recently) President Bush made calls like this.  The section of law that makes such requirements of robotic calls does not apply to political calls.  This is a political lynching of a traditional values conservative!  You can help Tim Pope by donating to the Pope Legal Defense Fund today.

It has been a very short time since the liberal Trial Lawyers front group used robocalls without a phone number to attack over 20 different Republican Representatives and only last month a Democrat State Representative made anonymous robocalls against a Republican State Representative but the Attorney General has remained silent on those occurrences.

The plot thickened some more the week after the case was filed when the AG reached an agreement with the telephone company that placed Pope’s phone calls for an issue totally unrelated to anything they had done for Pope but he reported it by saying that the company had reached an agreement and paid a fine and agreed to cooperate in the prosecution of Tim Pope.  This just ratcheted up the rhetoric and made Tim look like more like a drug kingpin than someone who was just trying to enjoy his First Amendment rights.

It all came a little better into focus this last week when the County Commissioner had his fundraiser and one of the guests of honor was none other than the Attorney General Drew Edmondson.   It is now painfully obvious that Edmondson was just trying to turn up the heat and make Roth look like a poor little victim so that he could raise more money for his re-election this year.  By the way, the performer at Roth’s event was an internationally known Pagan musician.

This is now all in the hands of the courts and lawyers and we hope that everything works out well for Tim because he has been a stalwart of the conservative movement in Oklahoma for 20 years and has never backed down from the left at anytime I can remember.

Tim feels that all will be fine in the end but you still have to hire the lawyers and fight it in court so if you would like to help Tim in any way you can by donating to the Tim Pope Legal Defense Fund.  Such contributions are not tax deductible but are very important.  Please take a moment and send a contribution today.
