News Release: TheVanguard.Org Statement on Today's
GOP-Led Effort to Abolish the Death Tax
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 8, 2006
TheVanguard.Org, America's premier conservative movement online, released this statement today in response to the Senate's narrow failure to permanently repeal the Death Tax:
"This morning, virtually every Republican U.S. Senator stood up and fought to permanently repeal the Death Tax. They lost. But they didnt lose by much, and they didnt lose without a fight.
"The only Republicans to vote FOR the Death Tax were Rhode Islands Lincoln Chafee (so liberal he actually voted against George W. Bush for re-election in 2004) and Ohios George Voinovich. With Chafee in a tough primary against a conservative challenger right now, we mean to punish him immediately.
"So the good news is, our guys fought and fought hard. We have 55 Republicans: two known liberal Republicans defected, but conservatives persuaded four Democrats to cross the aisle and vote with us. 57 Senators voted to kill the Death Tax, out of a necessary 60. And thats no small thing.
"But it also shows who the real enemy is. Its not Republicans, who (finally) got their act together and did what they were elected to do: its the 41 Democrats who honestly believe that family farmers and corner grocers should pay 55% of everything their own to the government when they die. These are old-school socialists: they believe in punishing honest, hard work, and that government bureaucrats are smarter and better than you. And they, along with Chafee and Voinovich, have to go.
"Today, we saw clearly what five more conservative Senators would mean for America. We saw what a Democrat-led Senate would mean too.
"At TheVanguard.Org, we believe in remembering our friends and punishing our enemies. Target number one: Lincoln Chafee. We will shortly announce a major initiative to defeat him in his Rhode Island U.S. Senate primary, where he faces pro-growth conservative Steve Laffey. Well also be supporting the conservatives who stood up today, and working to turn back the left-wing MoveOn.org onslaught that seeks to turn the Senate into a peoples republic this fall.
"But above all, want to thank our hundred thousand members. Without their hard work, thousands of signed petitions, phone calls, and faxes, even 57 votes would have been impossible. We put these Senators on the record: we know where they stand. And now we will use that to achieve a far bigger conservative victory this fall and beyond.
"The internet is changing politics. You are what makes it go. And next time, we will win."
The fight is just beginning,
