FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 6, 2005
NICEVILLE, FLORIDA -- Vanguard PAC, one of America's leading conservative groups and an organizational member of the Congressional End the Death Tax Caucus, issued the following statement this morning on Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist's decision to postpone today's vote on the Death Tax Repeal Permanency Act of 2005 (H.R. 8).
"Senator Frist's postponement of the Death Tax vote was wholly appropriate," said Rod Martin, Vanguard PAC's founder and chairman. "Given the urgent need to address relief for the victims of Hurricane Katrina, the vote can certainly wait several days.
"But more to the point, several key Senators have expressed the ludicrous view that Katrina's aftermath makes permanent Death Tax repeal too costly, and if the vote were held today, they would be able to defeat it.
"The fact is, Katrina makes repeal more important than ever. Thousands of small businesses were wiped out in New Orleans alone, and thousands lie dead, their heirs subject to this wretched tax. If we don't repeal it quickly, their businesses will never rise again, and their employees will not only have lost their homes but their jobs as well.
"Vanguard PAC appreciates Senator Frist's wisdom in postponing this vote; and we will be working along with thousands of activists across America to show the Senate what must be done, for the Gulf Coast and for all of us. The Death Tax must die now."
