Petition to the U.S. Senate: Kill the Death Tax!
On June 8, 2006, 57 U.S. Senators -- 3 short of the number necessary to overcome a Democrat filibuster -- voted to permanently and completely abolish the Death Tax. Only two Republicans voted with the left: Lincoln Chafee (R-RI) and George Voinovich (R-OH). Four Democrats crossed the aisle and did the right thing.
TheVanguard.Org salutes these courageous men and women; we also note what's plain for all to see: a Democrat takeover of Congress would mean higher taxes and less opportunity for every American. We mean to stop that; we also mean to punish those who voted wrong, starting with Lincoln Chafee (who faces a conservative primary challenge this year).
Democrats blocked another compromise measure before the August recess; yet Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN) stood strong: he promised another vote before the end of the year. We mean to win that vote. Your signature today will help us round up those last three votes and win this fight once and for all.
To the Senate Democrats:
Even Russia repealed the Death Tax last year. So it is a disgrace before the world that America -- supposedly the citadel of freedom -- still hasn't.
Only the extreme left stands in the way: 57 Senators voted right on June 8th, and Senator Frist has promised another vote "before the Fourth of July." I call on you to do the right thing: help the poor accumulate wealth so their children can get out of poverty; help family farmers and small business owners avoid having to sell out just to pay their tax bill; join your colleagues in the House of Representatives, who already voted 272-162 to end this unjust tax.
Vote to repeal the Death Tax. It's an election year. We're watching. And there may still be time for a few of you to redeem yourselves.
